Are You Where You Need to Be?

One morning last weekend while in Seattle to visit son Corbett, we passed up Starbucks in order to have coffee at a small, locally owned shop, a heresy to Starbucks lovers since Seattle is the headquarters of the world’s largest coffee shop chain (20,000 locations worldwide.)

Personal attention personified.

I thought about it for a moment and realized that the sign on the wall was correct — at that moment I was right where I needed to be. Although the shop had just opened, the line was already long with local patrons, a hint that the coffee there must be good. Service was slower than hyper-efficient Starbucks but when I got my cappuccino, I could see why. Every cup was painstakingly decorated with a different Halloween illustration: kitties, ghosts, cobwebs and witches. Nobody seemed to care that it took longer to get their coffee because each customer was given personal attention. You don’t see that very often anymore.

The sign also resonated with me for another reason: I am a Weight Watchers leader, and at our meetings we often talk about the importance of attending meetings. Yes, people are busier than ever and there are a zillion calorie-counting apps available on our iPhones. But for the most part, apps don’t work. You aren’t accountable to an app. You get no feedback and no personal attention. No metaphorical kitty in your cappuccino.

Bottom line: there is no substitute for the connection between real people. When you attend a Weight Watchers meeting, you are exactly where you need to be.

For at home I’m using Dr. Kellyann’s Collagen to go. It contains grass fed protein with 6 grams of protein with Brazilian coffee. Have you heard of the bone broth craze??
Just starting her 21 day Bone broth diet. Guess I’ll begin making it at home. Store brought is a disappointment. Oh and so expensive. Last chance to get off the last lbs for my big 70th in New York City in March. Love to hear from you.
