Next Stop: 2011

Anne's Excellent 2011 Shoes!

I think I’ve made it clear that if I were to don my Julie Andrews hat and sing, “My Favorite Things,” turning 60 years old would not be in the lyrics.

However, while we cannot avoid the inevitable vagaries of life, we do have 100% control over how we react to them. Enter my new,
“I’m-60-and-I-can-wear-anything-I-want” shoes.

Two weeks ago, just before my birthday, I saw them in a store window, and they spoke to me. I put them on my Christmas list, and Champ, who is a very smart man and who knows when he should take me dead seriously, ponied up.

These are the shoes that will take me into 2011 with an attitude. On that note, I would like to take this opportunity to suggest that you not wait until you’re 60 in order to develop your own attitude. (If you’re past 60, I hope you’re already flaunting your unique style. After all, you are the only you there is.)

Why do we wait until we are senior citizens before we feel comfortable in our own skin? When I was in my twenties and thirties, I was very conscious of the image I was projecting to the world. I wanted people to like me. I wanted to be accepted by my peers. I didn’t want to be left out.

I guess one of the few advantages of getting older is that I don’t give a damn anymore. I’ve suddenly become impatient with myself, and with my futile attempts to be who I thought I should be rather than to just be who I was.

Does this ring a bell with you? If so, this is the perfect time of year to re-think your New Year’s resolution. You, too, could get some kick-ass shoes (please, no red hats) and join me as we tap-dance our way into 2011.

One more note: Hungry Poodle will step it up in 2011. More posts, more recipes, more irreverence. We definitely need more of that.

Watch out world–Anne is breaking loose. We will all be challenged by her and that’s a very good thing. Anne has never been typical and now it seems she will be getting even more real; I can’t wait!
I am looking forward to following her on HungyPoodle.

Dahling, you are an inspiration to us all, no matter if your audience is aged, 20,30,40,50,60,70 or in my Mum’s case 83! Looking forward to not giving a damn with you in March! Happy New Year to you and all your readers from Scotland (first Hogmanay in Scotland for me tonight!). Would be nice not to have razors in my throat and a banging headache, but I’m sure the local whiskey will help anaesthetise everything! Lots of love xoxoxo
