The U.S. government has announced that new nutrition labels will be introduced within the next year. The labels, which are found on approximately 700,000 food products, will undergo major changes — calorie counts will be featured prominently, and serving sizes will be more in line with what Americans are actually eating (a single serving of ice cream will no longer be 1/2 cup but a more realistic 1 cup).
And for the first time, information on the added sugars in our foods will be listed. Current labels show total sugar content, but they don’t differentiate between naturally occurring sugars and those added to food products from high fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners.
Americans eat too much sugar, which is nutritionally void, and it is making us unhealthy and fat. Watch this video from Buzzfeed to find out why.
