Weight Loss Secrets Revealed!

by Anne Bennett on November 10, 2009

Got your attention, didn’t I?

images-2Actually, I don’t have any weight loss secrets. Yes, that was a cruel ploy, but I was just mimicking what all the major magazines do whenever they want to boost sales. Don’t take my word for it, check it out next time you’re in a long line at the supermarket. You’re likely to find at least one diet-related article on the cover of every single magazine in sight. Why? Because diets sell. The same proven catch phrases appear over and over: eat what you want and lose weight, walk your way thin, eat your way thin (that one always stymies me), learn the diet secrets of the celebrities.

Don’t feel that you’re alone when you get suckered into buying one of these magazines. They get me every time, especially the articles about the celebrities. Who doesn’t want to look like Valerie Bertinelli (pictured above)? And she lost it so fast, you think, as you place the magazine onto the conveyor belt. This could be me in, what, two months?

Please don’t hate me for saying this, but to think that any of these claims works is folly, pure and simple. Magazine editors know this, but brisk sales from issues with miracle diets on their covers is just way too big a carrot.

You want to lose weight? Stay tuned. My next post will give details. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The cameras do amazing things, don’t they? UGH! If only we could all lose 30 lbs in a month and still “eat whatever we want.” I so want to call some of these places that “promise” all the good things and say… so, on your program – when I stop using your pills (or powder, or meals), will the weight stay off? And can I really eat/drink whatever I want? Can I have a glass (or 2) of wine if I want? Can I eat all the fruits/vegetables, carbs, chocolate… that I want? What happens if I get a craving? (Okay, end of rant) 🙂

Just a reminder to all that read this if you didn’t make the two point turkey chili or the chicken corn chowder from October you really missed the boat. I made them both and froze the extra, We ate some chili last night, what a great dinner on a chilly evening. Yum!!!
