What’s Really in that Egg-White Sandwich?

by Anne Bennett on July 19, 2013

I’ll admit it — when McDonald’s recently introduced its newest “healthy” item, an Egg White Delight McMuffin, I was kind of excited. After all, I’d always secretly scarfed an Egg McMuffin whenever I could muster an excuse — I was driving to the airport in the early morning, or I was on a road trip far away from “real food.”  ( I did say, “excuse”, didn’t I? )

The original Egg McMuffin has 300 calories, not bad for fast food. Its progeny, the Egg White Delight, has 50 fewer calories, probably, I surmised, because they removed the egg yolk, which contains all the cholesterol. That’s a good thing, right?

If you’re thinking that fast food restaurants have your health in mind when they concoct seemingly healthy selections, you’re living in foodie la-la land. Watch this video and then go into your kitchen, crack a few eggs whites into a bowl and scramble up your own sandwich with none of the “extras”!
