Air Fryer Turkey Meatballs

An Air fryer is a countertop convection oven that cooks food by circulating hot air rapidly throughout its interior. Food cooks more quickly, and becomes crispy and golden brown without using a lot of oil. With an air fryer you can make crispy french fries with just a light spray of olive oil. Fried chicken? Same thing.

Meatballs are another food that is traditionally fried in oil. I like to make turkey meatballs because they're leaner than typical Italian meatball meat (a combination of beef and pork). Air frying them browns them beautifully in just minutes. You can serve them with marinara sauce and pasta, or you can serve them with a dip as an appetizer.

As always, these turkey meatballs are low in fat, calories and WW Points and are a delicious way to get healthy protein in your meals or snacks.

1 lb. 93% lean ground turkey

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 clove garlic, minced

3/4 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. ground pepper

1/2 tsp. onion powder

1 tsp. dried basil or Italian seasoning

In a medium mixing bowl stir together the ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder and basil. Mix gently until thoroughly combined.

Spray the basket of an air fryer with nonstick spray or line with a parchment air fryer liner.

Shape the mixture into 12 to 15 meatballs (I use a large ice cream scoop). Wet your hands and shape them into balls and place them in the air fryer, leaving a small amount of space between each one. You may have to cook them in two batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Spray the top of the meatballs with nonstick spray.

Air fry the meatballs at 400 degrees F. for 7 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they register 165 degrees on an instant-read thermometer. Again, depending on the type and size of your air fryer, they may take longer to fully cook, so be sure to check them halfway through cooking.
